Yu Yang – 于洋

Biography

(b. 1979, Inner Mongolia)
Lives and works in Beijing

Neo-traditionalist ink artist Yu Yang was born in 1979 in the city of Ulanhot in Inner Mongolia. Trained in classical Chinese painting, Yu completed his studies at Lu Xun Academy of Fine Art in Shenyang then went on to graduate with a Master’s degree from the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing.

Yu currently lives and works in Beijing and is a member of COLD INK, a group of young emerging ink artists trained in classical techniques but each forging their own artistic vision that goes beyond the traditional medium. In Yu’s paintings, representational qualities are broken down into the elements of ink, water and paper, attempting to achieve a revitalized interpretation of color, geometry, form and space. To date, Yu has participated in exhibitions in various countries including China, Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea.
