PARKVIEW ART Hong Kong is proud to present Hong Kong artist Gloria Wong’s second solo exhibition in Hong Kong, Preludes, the exhibition will present 33+1 new works from the artist.
Gloria fixated herself on a deceptively simple subject, one that is difficult to capture without an acute sensitivity. Any measure of success can only be achieved through a unique dialogue with the subject, a relationship that has been developed lovingly and gradually over a significant period of time. In this way, Gloria’s flowers in her first solo show revealed themselves in all their poetic beauty. They were not conventional flowers, but flowers stripped of any kind of easy rhetoric; their beauty shown through their absolute being, be it their decadence of bloom, fragility of decay, the starkness of their loneliness. In other words, these were flowers in their essence; their souls revealed to all who looked at her work.
In this new series, Gloria now presents us with something more subtle, in many ways even more vague and inscrutable. A visionary artist walking courageously along the winding abstract path created by nature itself. Gloria says she avoids using her rational brain in the creative process. She allows her third eye to reign and run free, as the final arbiter of choice and decision-making… In this way Gloria’s art emanates from the source of her artistic vision without obstruction or compromise.
